SGV SBDC Matches LA Boxing with Bank for Business Loan
SGV SBDC Matches LA Boxing with Bank for Business Expansion Loan
Anthony Geisler’s success with a rapidly expanding franchise of health and fitness clubs, LA Boxing (www.laboxing.com), was the very reason he sought help from the SBDC hosted by Mt. San Antonio College. The 31-year-old entrepreneur had converted a grimy gym into a top-of the-line, nationwide franchise, but five years of self-financing left him with skimpy cash reserves.
To improve his cash flow and expand further, he sought help from SGV SBDC consultant Jerry Boykin and obtained an $850,000 loan for equipment and operating expenses.

Is Small Business Ownership For Me?
Is Small Business Ownership For Me?
by: Alberto G. Alvarado
U.S. Small Business Administration
Los Angeles District Director
Today, we initiate a monthly series on various aspects of small business ownership and SBA services. We'll start with an obvious topic with a potential to propel you forward with energy and purpose. At the same time, this most basic question and the introspection it spawns will serve to make certain small business ownership is for you if you have the dream.
Starting and managing a business takes motivation, desire and talent. It also takes research and planning. Like a chess game, success in small business starts with decisive and correct opening moves. And, although initial mistakes are not fatal, it takes skill, discipline and hard work to move forward.

What you need to know about Networking..
What you need to know about Networking..
Fourteen guidelines to increase your success.
Networking is an invaluable tool that anyone in the business world can utilize. Effective networking can be your best form of marketing, as well as being extremely affordable. To give a definition of networking, networking occurs when there is a planned event or gathering with the primary goal of connecting with others. The purpose of networking can vary based on one's own agenda, yet the primary focus is to meet people, and have people meet you. In other words, you have the opportunity to market yourself and your business in a relaxed, social situation. This often proves to be a comfortable situation for all involved.

Financing Basics
Financing Basics
What you need to know about obtaining capital for your business
While poor management is cited most frequently as the reason businesses fail, inadequate or ill-timed financing is a close second. Whether you're starting a business or expanding one, sufficient ready capital is essential. But it is not enough to simply have sufficient financing; knowledge and planning are required to manage it well. These qualities ensure that entrepreneurs avoid common mistakes like securing the wrong type of financing, miscalculating the amount required, or underestimating the cost of borrowing money.

Are you a good decision maker?
Are you a good decision maker?
Ten Steps to Wise Decision-Making
Decisions, decisions, decisions. It seems like every time we turn around, we have to make more decisions. The question is, "Are you a good decision maker?" If you aren't (or don't think you are), there is no need to worry. Decision-making is a skill that can be learned by anyone. Although some people may find this particular skill easier than others, everyone applies a similar process.
There are two basic kinds of decisions: those that are arrived at using a specific process and those that just happen. Although both kinds of decisions contain opportunities and learning experiences, there are definite advantages to using a specific process to make a decision. The most obvious advantage is the reduced level of stress you will experience.

Why do a Business Plan?
Why do a business plan?
Only 19% of small business owners use business planning. And 19% of small businesses survive at the end of each year.
Most people wouldn't think of building a house without a set of building plans. Without a building plan, it is doubtful your foundation would be adequate, you might forget key parts of the plumbing, and your kitchen might end up where your bathroom should be.

| Welcome to San Gabriel Valley SBDC - Hosted by Mt.SAC |
Welcome to San Gabriel Valley SBDC
Welcome to Los Angeles - San Gabriel Valley Small Business Development Center hosted by Mt. San Antonio College. (also known as Mt.SAC SBDC)
The San Gabriel Valley is one of the principal valleys of southern California. It lies to the east of the city of Los Angeles, to the north of the Puente Hills, to the south of the San Gabriel Mountains, and to the west of the Inland Empire. It derives its name from the San Gabriel River that flows southward through the center of the valley. At one time predominantly agricultural, the San Gabriel Valley is today almost entirely developed (largely in suburban form, but with certain areas beginning to urbanize) and is an integral part of the Greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.
The mission of the San Gabriel Valley SBDC is to enhance economic growth by helping start and grow businesses.
The San Gabriel Valley SBDC hosted by Mt. San Antonio College has been serving small business owners in Los Angeles County since the early 1990's, and works closely with many local business organizations.
California's Small Business Development Center program began operating in 1989 and has grown to 45 centers. The State of California is organized into 6 regions, corresponding with the SBA district offices. For the Greater Los Angeles area, The Long Beach Community College is the Lead Center, providing leadership to 8 SBDCs in the Greater Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.
The Mt. San Antonio College Small Business Development Center (Mt. SAC SBDC) provides a variety of services to businesses and entrepreneurs to help their businesses grow and succeed. We have a team of counselors that provide advice on a one to one basis at little or no cost. Generally this is done at one of our offices, and we can also go onsite to local businesses on a selective basis. We also provide low cost workshops on various topics relevant to business owners and we offer assistance to individuals in applying for loans or seeking access to capital sources.
The Small Business Development Center program is currently the largest management and technical assistance program in the United States, serving the small business sector. The program has more than 1000 SBDCs located in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) administers the overall program while implementation of the program rests with each SBDC Lead Center and the participating organizations within the state.
We are hosted by Mt. San Antonio College and funded in part by a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Funding is also provided through the California Community Colleges and through local Cities, Chambers of Commerce, Banks and Community Organizations.
